What is a current analysis?
Since issue no. 28 of the specialist magazine analyse:berg, we have been looking at where the accident victims, i.e. all the uninjured, injured and dead, come from. We analyze the “flows” of those people involved in an accident who are recorded in the ÖKAS database. Are they mostly locals or are they increasingly people from (neighboring) countries who find themselves in an emergency situation?
In this specific case, we are looking at the period from November 1, 2023 to October 31, 2024, analyzing the summer disciplines of hiking, mountaineering, climbing, via ferrata, mountain biking and aviation accidents. The graphics are taken from the summer issue 2025, no. 29, of analyse:berg magazine.

If we break down the accident victims according to their place of residence and look at where in Austria they have an accident, we get these flows, which we show graphically for each federal state. The last graph clearly shows that many of the accident victims do not come from Austria, but from other countries.

In addition to specialist articles on various mountaineering-specific topics, experience reports and accident examples, all accidents recorded by the Alpine Police are analyzed and the results are presented graphically.
